Scientists might have discovered the first signs of the gravitational-wave background: a sea of ripples in space-time reverberating throughout the universe. Albert Einstein first predicted the
We’ve known about gravitational waves for a long time. Gravitational waves are 'ripples' in space-time caused by some of the most violent and energetic processes in the Universe. Albert Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves in 1916 in his general theory of relativity. The most powerful gravitational waves are created when massive objects move at very high speeds. This means the significant ripples in the curvature of spacetime are produced when two black holes orbit each other and merge. Moreover, two big stars, especially the neutron stars also give rise to gravitational waves while orbiting each other. The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) has spent more than a decade using ground-based radio telescopes to look for evidence of these space-time ripples created by behemoth black holes.

(Listen to it here .) tion of the theory behind gravitational radiation: the radiation of energy in the form of gravitational waves. Numerical methods are used to predict the gravi-tational waves emanating from specific cosmological events like the collision of black holes. Starting in Section 4 of their article, Bieri et al. describe these In March 2014, scientists working on the BICEP2 telescope at the South Pole reported an incredible discovery: a swirling pattern in the cosmic background radiation that appeared to indicate the presence of gravitational waves. But do these ripples in space-time hold up under further scientific scrutiny?

More than 100 years ago, a great scientist named Albert Einstein came up with many ideas about gravity and space. Albert Einstein, official 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics photograph.

Predicted in 1916 by Albert Einstein to exist on the basis of his theory of general relativity, gravitational waves theoretically transport energy as gravitational radiation. In particular, gravitational forces must not be transmitted or communicated faster than light. This means that when the gravitational field of an object changes, the changes ripple outwards through space and take a finite time to reach other objects. These ripples are called gravitational radiation or gravitational … Gravitational waves are caused by the accelerated masses of cosmic beings, which send out waves at the speed of light.

LIGO is a physics experiment designed to measure gravitational waves reaching our planet from deep space.
Gravitational Radiation: From theory to detection JUSTIN FORLANO October, 2013 Summary Gravitational waves are ripples in space and time which locally stretch and compress space. These waves are strongly emitted from the most violent astrophysical systems such as two black holes orbiting each other.
